Host Requirements


This is a plug-in; you must use it with a compatible host program.

Physical Size Requirements on Hard Drive (in Megabytes)

  • Plug-in and related files - Less than 10 MB
  • Individual texture set - Less than 150 MB

Macintosh Hosts

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 - CC 2014 (32-bit/64-bit) or later
  • Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 or later
  • Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 or later
  • Apple Aperture 2.1 or later
  • Apple iPhoto '08 or later

Windows Hosts

  • Adobe Photoshop CS2 - CC 2014 (32-bit/64-bit) or later*

  • OpenGL graphics card, 16-bit color, and 256MB of VRAM
  • 1024 x 768 display resolution (1280 x 800 recommended)

Windows Systems

  • Windows OS 2000, XP, Vista32 and 64, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or later*
  • 1.2 GHz Pentium processor or higher
  • At least 256 megabytes of RAM, 1 Gigabyte or more of RAM recommended

    * Windows plug-in is also compatible with earlier Windows and Adobe releases as well as the following image editing applications: ACD PhotoEditor, Corel Photo-Paint 13, Corel PaintShop Pro X and higher, JASC PaintShop Pro 8 and higher, Xara Picture Editor 3, GIMP 2, Ulead PhotoImpact and Macromedia Fireworks 8

How to Install

Macintosh Installation
Use the following instructions to install the Permanent Press 2 filter:

  1. Shut down your graphics host program. Note: To install the Permanent Press 2 filter, your OS X user account must have administrator privileges. For information on configuring your user account for administrator privileges, talk to your IT person or consult your OS X user manual.
  2. Locate the installation program that you downloaded from the online store and double-click to unzip.
  3. Double-click the installer icon.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Read the license agreement.
  6. Click Accept.
  7. Select the Hard Drive you wish to install Permanent Press 2 on.
  8. Click Next and the installer then will attempt to locate the newest Photoshop plug-ins folder.
  9. Once the installer finds the correct location, click Yes then click Next to install the files. If the installer doesn't find the correct installation location, click No and the installer will continue to locate an appropriate installation location.
  10. If no appropriate plug-in installation location is found, you will be prompted to locate to your desired installation location manually. Click Change... to manually browse to the desired installation location then click Next to install the files OR simply click Next and the files will install by default in the Applications > MisterRetro folder on your Hard Drive.

    • Photoshop users: Use the path <Drive> / Applications / Adobe Photoshop (CS2 - CC 2014) / Plug-ins / Filters and click Next to install the Permanent Press 2 filter. Note: Adobe Photoshop CS6 and higher no longer uses the Filters folder, so you may install directly into the Plug-ins folder.

    • Photoshop Elements users: Use the path <Drive> / Applications / Adobe Photoshop Elements (9 or higher) / Plug-ins and click Next to install the Permanent Press 2 filter.

    • Photoshop Lightroom / Apple Aperture / iPhoto users: You'll notice at the bottom of the installer there are three checkboxes for each of these applications listed. By default, the installer detects these on your computer and each corresponding checkbox is selected automatically. If you do not wish to install Permanent Press 2 on these hosts, simply uncheck the appropriate box. Otherwise, let the installer select the preferred path to install Permanent Press 2.

      If you do not choose the proper folder, the filter will not show up in the appropriate menu. Note: If you are not sure where to install the Permanent Press 2 filter, consult your graphics program user manual.
  11. The installer copies the files to your hard disk. Rerun the installer if you wish to install the Permanent Press 2 filter into other graphics programs.
  12. Once properly installed, it's time to start working with Permanent Press 2 in your favorite image editing application:

    • Photoshop & Photoshop Elements users: Start Photoshop, open the image you'd like to start working with, then in the application menu select Filters > Mister Retro > Permanent Press 2 to begin.

    • Photoshop Lightroom users: If you're working with Photoshop Lightroom, open the image you'd like to start working with, then in the application menu select Photo > Edit In Permanent Press 2.

      If you'd rather work with Permanent Press 2 as an external editor in Lightroom, Go to Lightroom > Preferences in the menu bar. Under the External Editing tab, Click the "Choose" button next to Application and choose Permanent Press 2 App rather the PermanentPress2.plugin from the folder Permanent Press 2 was installed in.

      To edit a photo using Permanent Press 2 as an external editor, choose a photo in Lightroom and go to Photo > Edit In > Edit in Permanent Press 2 App... in the menu bar. Once you're done editing in Permanent Press 2, click the "Apply" button.

    • Apple Aperture users: If you're working with Aperture, select the image(s) you'd like to start working with, then in the application menu select Images > Edit With > Permanent Press 2.

      If you'd rather work with Permanent Press 2 as an external editor in Aperture, go to Aperture > Preferences in the menu bar. Under the Export tab, Click the "Choose" button to the right of the External Photo Editor field and choose Permanent Press 2 App rather the PermanentPress2.plugin from the folder Permanent Press 2 was installed in.

      To edit a photo using Permanent Press 2 as an external editor, control-click on the photo in Aperture and choose "Edit with Permanent Press 2App". Once you're done editing in Permanent Press 2, click the "Apply" button.

    • Apple iPhoto users: If you're working with iPhoto, select the image(s) you'd like to start working with, then in the application menu select File > Export and then click the Permanent Press 2 tab at the top, then the Export button. Note: PPC iPhoto users, upon launch you will be asked to first select the destination for the edited image before the plug-in will launch.

      If you'd rather work with Permanent Press 2 as an external editor in iPhoto, Go to iPhoto > Preferences in the menu bar. Under the Advanced tab (or the General tab, if you're using iPhoto 09), change the "Edit photo" setting to "In application..." and choose Permanent Press 2 App rather the PermanentPress2.plugin from the folder Permanent Press 2 was installed in.

      To edit a photo using Permanent Press 2 as an external editor, control-click on the photo in iPhoto and choose "Edit in External Editor". Once you're done editing in Permanent Press 2, click the "Apply" button.
  13. You will need to register and activate the plug-in before your first use.

Windows Installation
Use the following instructions to install the Permanent Press 2 filter:

  1. Shut down your graphics host program. Note: To install the Permanent Press 2 filter, your Windows 2000, XP, Vista32 and 64, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1 or later user account must have administrator privileges. For information on configuring your user account for administrator privileges, talk to your IT person or consult your user manual.
  2. Locate the installation program that you downloaded from the online store.
  3. Extract all contents of folder and open.
  4. Double-click the Setup.exe icon.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Read the license agreement.
  7. Click Accept.
  8. Click Next. The installer then will attempt to locate the latest Photoshop plug-ins folder and install the Permanent Press 2 filter in that location.
  9. Click Next to accept this location to install the plug-in OR Click Browse to change the desired plug-in folder location. Once you've located the folder you'd like to install the plug-in at, click Next to accept this location and proceed with the installation.

    • Photoshop Lightroom users: The installer will automatically locate and prompt you to confirm if you'd like to install Permanent Press 2 into Lightroom.
  10. Once properly installed, it's time to start working with Permanent Press 2 in your favorite image editing application:

    • Photoshop & Photoshop Elements users: Start Photoshop, open the image you'd like to start working with, then in the application menu select Filters > Mister Retro > Permanent Press 2 to begin.

    • Photoshop Lightroom users: If you're working with Photoshop Lightroom, open the image you'd like to start working with, then in the application menu select Photo > Edit In Permanent Press 2.
  11. You will need to register and activate the plug-in before your first use.
